Wardrobe by Me Summer Breeze Tunic

I'm participating in my first blog tour.  Summer Breeze and Tulip Top have just released and Christina has lots of lovely bloggers that have posts to share.

Today's other post is by Stephanie Knaepper"s and you can find it here:  https://doctorabotonesblog.wordpress.com/2017/05/26/summer-breeze-by-wardrobe-by-me/

How to participate in all the good fun? Very easy... Stop by Wardrobe By Me Pattern support on Facebook, and add a comment to the blog link of the day
The new Summer Breeze Tunic  by Wardrobe by Me is going to be a summer staple (affiliate links).  I was a tester for the pattern and received it for free.  It is drafted for wovens, but can be sewn with knits if you size down.  Let's start with the pattern details.

The pattern features size 0-20, a bust dart, bias bound neckline, front facing for the center slit, hi-low hem that is easily hemmed because it has a straight ruffle instead of a curve, and invisible binding inside the armscye.

I'd forgotten how rewarding it is to sew wovens.  I've been working days since January and haven't had much time to sew, so I have been trying to stick with quick knit projects.  It turns out woven patterns can be fast too.  This took an evening to sew and my next one will be even faster.  I was able to construct the entire garment on my Bernina 640 sewing machine.  I just had to finish the interior seams on my serger before piecing.  Besides being fun to sew, since it is from woven fabric, this top is light and airy for our hot and humid San Antonio, TX summers.

The fabric is a lightweight specialty cotton from Joann's Fabrics that I bought a couple of years ago.  I blended a size 8 out to a size 10 to accommodate my pear shape.  Normally I need to blend from an 8 to a 12 in Wardrobe by Me patterns, but she included the finished measurements chart and I knew I would be fine in the 10 for my hips.

Her PDFs feature clear no nonsense illustrations and instructions.  All of the necessary steps are covered, but you don't have to weed through excessive chatter or technique hand holding.  If you are new to sewing you can still easily sew this pattern.  Her Facebook Group Wardrobe by Me Pattern Support is great for getting a bit of extra help.

This pattern has a second view with a full neckline facing and a ruffle, so at the facing stage you are instructed to turn to the end of the PDF to be instructed on that style (instead of having to skip over extra details that don't apply to your view).

I'm looking forward to sewing more of these and trying out some of the testers's hacks.  I just finished a Wardrobe by Me Norma Jean Kimono  (affiliate) and made a full blog post with more pictures of the pairing.

I recently bought a loose and flowy sleeveless top and short jean jacket Anthropology.  This was out of my normal comfort zone (I usually wear shirts that are fitted at my waist and have sleeves), but absolutely loved it together.  So, when Christina asked for testers for her new summer tops I decided to forget how busy the end of the school year is and just test.

Now I have another top that has a similar feel and pairs beautifully with my new jean jacket and I didn't have to pay Anthropology prices for it.

  1. Love the details on this top and that you can use knits or women's...

    1. Thanks! The bust dart is a huge plus for a ladies pattern to fit nicely. I can't wait to sew a lightweight knit version.

    1. Thanks! It has become part of my regular wardrobe. I think I have worn it out three times (all special events with friends or family).
